JOB DETAILS:

POSITION TITLE: Systems Administrator II

DEPARTMENT: I.T. Networking

LOCATION: Eastern Operations Center in Parsippany, NJ

                                                               

JOB SUMMARY: Designs, tests, selects and installs network and server hardware and software. Provides highly skilled technical assistance in trouble-shooting problems and maintaining systems.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Additional duties may be assigned, and functions may be modified, according to business necessity.

          Researches and proposes new technology, hardware, and software for the Company as assigned.  Maintains current knowledge of new technologies and identifies possible hardware and software solutions to meet future company needs.

          Assists in network planning, architecture and the development of technical standards.            

          Monitors network traffic to ensure maximum performance and availability to users in maintaining data integrity on the network.

          Assists users on technical problems in person or via telephone.

          Installs, upgrades, maintains, and documents all software and hardware on servers, personal computers and other network equipment.

          Ensures software licenses are in compliance.

          Coordinates activities with Manager, technical staff, users, and vendors, which include service requests and trouble-tickets.

          Provides written and verbal status of projects to all involved parties.

          Responds to tickets from Help Desk for OC & Field equipment problems.

          Carries out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY

Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position.

          Excellent understanding of Dell and HP PC hardware.  Windows 2000, XP and MS Office software platforms.

          Excellent understanding of Dell Power Edge server hardware including blade server technology as well as Windows 2000 and 2003 server operating systems.

          Strong understanding of business operations.

          In depth knowledge of, Active Directory, Exchange 2003, SQL Server, DNS, WINS, TCP/IP, Citrix and Lotus Notes.

          Experience with Cisco Switches, EMC SAN technologies and EMC Disk Xtender and E-Mail Xtender products a big plus

          Strong Knowledge of Network and System Management tools

          Experience with standard software applications such as McAfee, Visio, MS Project, and Adobe Acrobat.

          Strong understanding of computer technology and networks including WEB, internet and intranet.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

          Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences or related field, and 5+ year's experience or equivalent education and experience.

          MCSA in Windows 2003 certification REQUIRED, MCSE in Windows 2003 highly desirable.

          CCNA and/or experience with Cisco switching technology a big plus.

          Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.

          Ability to be an effective team member and handle project assignments responsibly.

          Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.

          Courteous telephone manner.

          Strong customer service and results orientation.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

With or without reasonable accommodation, a candidate must have the physical and mental capacity to effectively perform all essential functions described.  In addition to other demands, the demands of the job include:

          Maintaining composure in dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff and the public, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations.

          Successful passage of background, reference, psychological, and controlled substance tests.

          Handling and being exposed to sensitive and confidential information.

          Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.

          Periodic travel may be required intermittently.

          Must be available for after hours support approximately 1 out of every 6 weeks (24 x 7).

          Must be available to work after hours during I.T. maintenance windows, usually Wednesday nights.
